One of the newer Speyside distilleries, Charles Mackinlay & Co. constructed Glenallachie for the sole purpose of supplying malt for use in their blended Scotch whiskies. Designed by architect William Delme-Evans (who also worked on the Tullibardine and Jura distilleries), Glenallachie was built in 1967 in the shadow of Ben Rinnes near Aberlour. Twenty years after starting production, the distillery was briefly decommissioned for a short period of time. In 1989, the distillery changed ownership and the number of stills was increased from two to four. Two washbacks were added in 2011; these were acquired from the Caperdonich Distillery before it was demolished.
Glenallachie Distillery continues to produce whisky for blending; its malt, its character and flavour has made very good friends in the industry.
