Sitting in-between the Island of Islay and the west coast of mainland Scotland Jura has one road, one hotel, and of course, one distillery.
Despite the diminutive size of the Island, the whisky which Jura makes is anything but small and the huge stills which it employs produce a robust, meaty spirit, which is very distinctive indeed.
Jura matures into a complex malt whisky with a flavour profile unlike anything from the simmering, smoky beasts on neighbouring Islay. Expect to find layers of dark honey, brown sugar and a touch of spice, with just the merest hint of barbecued meat. An outstanding distillery with a coastal appeal all of its own.
