Described by whisky writer, Charles MacLean, as ‘the father of single malt,’ George Urquhart launched the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968. His vision: to provide whisky enthusiasts the opportunity to discover whiskies from distilleries seldom seen as single malts.
This release honours this vision by reimagining the iconic ‘black label’ which adorned the range in the early years.
Laid down in 1987, this whisky has been carefully nurtured for 39 years in a refill Sherry butt. Distilled on 3rd March 1987 and spending its entire maturation in cask no. 22601101, bottled on 30 April 2026 at cask strength of 51.4% ABV.
451 bottles of this whisky are now available at £1,250 per bottle.
Fragrant raisin and clove spice are complemented by tangerine zest. Jammy figs combine with vibrant strawberries and cracked black pepper. On the palate subtle cocoa develops alongside pressed apple. A full, spicy finish with lingering citrus and a hint of ash.
Laid down by ‘Mr George’ Urquhart in 1968, this whisky has been carefully nurtured for 56 years in a first-fill Sherry butt. Distilled on 10th December 1968 and spending its entire maturation in cask no. 5833, bottled on 3rd October 2025 at cask strength of 54.3% ABV.

Sweet tangerine and stewed raisins on the nose, with orange marmalade and dark chocolate on the palate. A full, long finish with cigar box notes.
