Laid down in a Refill Sherry hogshead cask no. 1656 on the 10th June 1969, our Private Collection 1969 from Dallas Dhu Distillery 1969 is a fitting tribute to a site with a colourful history that finally closed its doors in 1983. Elegantly sweet aromas of candied ginger and treacle toffee complement the lingering finish of roasted coffee beans.
Aromas of rich fruitcake laden with plump raisins, sultanas, and orange peel. An elegant sweetness of candied ginger, almond marzipan, and treacle toffee. Wisps of wood smoke and tobacco linger upon a back drop of subtle oak.
Toffee apples with fruit and nut dark chocolate flavours accompany mouth-warming cracked peppercorns. Spice sits in the background while wood tannins begin to take hold.
Lingering and warming; roasted coffee beans evolve into a subtle herbal edge. Full of character with a crisp clean edge.
Originally known as “Dallasmore”, Dallas Dhu distillery was built in 1898 by local Speyside entrepreneur, Alexander Edward. Renamed “Dallas Dhu” the following year after a change in ownership, production began on May 29th, 1899. The distillery, built less than two miles outside of Forres near the Morayshire coast, was one of the westernmost Speyside distilleries and uniquely powered parts of its production with a water wheel until 1971. As an operational distillery, Dallas Dhu had somewhat of a rocky time; the distillery fell silent from 1930 to 1936 and a major fire in 1939 forced the site to close again, with production not restarting until 1947. Dallas Dhu closed for the final time in 1983, before it was purchased in 1986 by Historic Scotland, who now operate the site as a museum that is part of Speyside’s iconic Malt Whisky Trail.
