Gordon & MacPhail 1970 from Mortlach Distillery
Tasting film
Nose
Exotic fruit and crystallised ginger aromas combine with rich vanilla. Toasted almonds give way to lime zest and hint of beeswax polish.
Taste
Sweet flavours of mango and peach develop to subtle herbs. Black pepper and dried tobacco comes to the fore, leading to sweet candied peel.
Finish
The finish is long with lingering tobacco and mature oak.
Mortlach Distillery
Founded by James Findlater, Donald Mackintosh and Alex Gordon in 1823, Mortlach was the first legal distillery in Dufftown following the passing of the Excise Act.
It was Alexander Cowie, who pioneered the distillery’s famed technique of ‘2.81 times distillation’, rather than the traditional method of double distillation, which is still in practice today: resulting in a spirit full of character and power.
