North of Dundee just outside the market town of Brechin sits the Glencadam Distillery. Despite a brief three year period when the distillery was mothballed (2000-2003), Glencadam has had a relatively quiet existence compared to other Scottish distilleries.
Built in 1825 and extensively modernised in the 1959, Glencadam’s spirit is a real hidden gem; used mainly for blending, it appears very rarely as a single malt. The upwardly directed lyne arms and the short thin pot stills combined create a light, versatile spirit that matures well in bourbon casks. The distillery has no visitor centre but visitors are welcome by appointment.
