Fettercairn
Fettercairn distillery conforms to the very ideals of a traditional pot still Scotch distillery, right down to the white washed walls and pagoda roof. A constant on the scene (aside from a short period in the early 1900s when it was mothballed), it has overcome the adversity of a fire in 1887, after which it was nearly dismantled during its silent period in the 1900s.
Fettercairn can boast of a famous owners in the early 1800s when Sir John Gladstone, father of the British Prime Minister, William Gladstone became one of its custodians.
Today, the distillery itself remains a relatively small operation in comparison to many of its local peers with two pairs of stills which have a water cooling arrangement on the necks to increase the amount of reflux that takes place.
