Glen Spey

In 1878 James Stuart, licensee for the Macallan Distillery, converted a disused mill into the ‘Mill of Rothes’ Distillery. Located across the burn from another Rothes distillery, Glen Rothes, Stuart questioned the ownership of water rights which sparked a dispute with its neighbour. Nine years later, it was renamed it to Glen Spey when it was sold to W&A Gilbey, owners both Strathmill and Knockando distilleries. Up until the refurbishment in 1970, Glen Spey operated with two stills; the extension allowed for the addition of two new stills.

Today the spirit is a well-regarded single malt; but it is rarely seen as a proprietary bottling. Explore this light, nutty floral whisky in our ‘Connoisseurs Choice’ range.
