Dalmore
North of Inverness, well placed off the A9 on the banks of the Cromarty Firth overlooking the rich and fertile Black Isle, lies the charming Dalmore Distillery. The distillery, whose name is half Gaelic and half ancient Norse meaning ‘the big meadowland’, was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson. Forty-seven years later, the distillery was sold to Mackenzie family who used their clan crest as inspiration for the distinctive distillery emblem – the twelve pointed stag.
Dalmore Distillery is known for the quality of the single malt it produces. The whisky is famously smooth and silky and matures well in both Sherry and bourbon casks.
