Glenrothes - Modern Times
The distillery, like many of its counterparts, works with a multi skilled workforce. This enables the distillery to work very
efficiently with fewer distillery workers than, say, ten years ago.
The days when distillery workers were specifically trained to do one task have long gone, and at Glenrothes distillery workers are
able to work the still room, single handed, as the process is automated by a sophisticated computer system. The key role of
the worker is to ensure that the process continues to work efficiently and high quality standards are maintained.
The one part of the distiller's craft that is not automated is the drawing of the spirit in the spirit safe (pictured bottom right) this is still
done today as it has been over the last 122 years.
