Craigellachie Distillery

The Whisky

The whisky making process to be found at Craigellachie results in a full flavoured new make spirit. When the new make is analysed, the manager is looking for a meaty/sulphury character.

The balanced distillation process ensures consistency from batch to batch. Unusually all four stills are the same shape and size. The lyne arms on the spirit stills have a very small decline.

However, the heavy character is due mainly to the use of worm tubs for the cooling of the alcohol vapours from the stills. The vapours travel along a total of 360 feet of copper tubing submerged in the tubs.

This depth of character not only makes it a favourite with the blenders but also a whisky which will mature into a rich, flavoursome dram.
