Benrinnes - Stills Composition
Each wash still is charged with the contents of one wash
back. This distillation is split into heads and tails; the
stronger heads are forwarded to the Strong Low Wines Receiver
and the weaker tails to the Weak Low Wines Receiver. The pot
ale is removed and transferred to the Dark Grains plant at
Dailuaine.
No.1 spirit still is charged from the Weak Low Wines Receiver
and again the distillation is split into two runs. The strong
run is forwarded to the Strong Low Wines Receiver and the
weak run is returned to the Weak Low Wines Receiver.
No2 Spirit Still is charged from the Strong Low Wines Receiver.
Once the foreshots are drawn off and transferred back to the
Strong Low Wines Receiver, Benrinnes spirit can now be collected.
Once the spirit run is completed, the feints are split into
two runs - strong feints are returned to the Strong Low Wines
Receiver and the weak feints to the Weak Low Wines Receiver.
The spent lees from both No.1 & No.2 Spirit Stills are
transferred to Dailuaine for processing The diagram shows how the contents of each of the receivers
are made up: Although the increased amount of distillation
would normally lead to a lighter style of whisky, the still
size and shape coupled with the use of worm tubs results in
a fuller flavoured whisky. Benrinnes is available as a single malt from Gordon &
MacPhail under the Connoisseurs Choice label and several vintages
are available.
