On 24th May 1895, James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail founded their grocers, whisky and wine merchants business in Elgin, the "Whisky Capital of the World". Joining them in their first year of trading was John Urquhart, whose grandchildren now own and operate the business.

Today, at Gordon & MacPhail, we continue to develop sales of Malt Scotch Whiskies and are considered to be The World's Leading Malt Whisky Specialists.

Our policy has always been to select and buy new make spirit direct from distilleries, then mature and warehouse it ourselves and when we consider it to be at its best, bottle it in our own bottling hall. In fact we bottle 80 different styles of malt on site.

We offer around 400 presentations of single malts, aged from five to 50 years old and also hold substantial stocks in casks.

Over the years we have obtained independent recognition and many prestigious awards for both our Single Malts and blended whiskies.

Some of the other whiskies we stock are extremely rare either because of their age, because stocks are in very short supply or, in some cases because the distillery has ceased to operate. Gordon & MacPhail has stocks of whiskies for every year from 1936 to present day. Our oldest whiskies are now over 60 years old and only a small number are released for sale each year.

We pride ourselves on the breadth and depth of our product portfolio and we currently have 16 different ranges offering over 750 different malt whiskies. Gordon & MacPhail has always striven to sell quality products and does not compromise in providing both high quality and a wide choice for our customers.
