Benromach is Official Whisky Partner of Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race

Benromach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been unveiled today as the Official Whisky Partner of the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race, the seventh edition of the event.
The announcement was made and the partnership toasted at the London Boat Show by David Stubley, Director of Sponsorship and Marketing of the Clipper Race organiser, Clipper Ventures Plc, and the Joint Managing Director of Gordon & MacPhail, proprietors of Benromach Single Malt Scotch Whisky, David Urquhart.

The family-owned firm of Gordon & MacPhail is the world’s leading malt whisky specialist with more than 110 years experience of maturing and bottling single malt whiskies and in 2003 was awarded the Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland’s Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of the company’s contribution to the Scotch Whisky industry. The Benromach distillery in Forres is a member of the world-famous Malt Whisky Trail.

People from around the world and from all walks of life compete in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race; crew members from 27 nationalities are currently taking part in Clipper 07-08. The 68-foot ocean racing yachts in the Clipper fleet are identical and each is sponsored by an international city or territory.

The Clipper Race generates intense global media coverage and provides a powerful marketing platform for global brands. Benromach represents the first of a select group of Official Partners to be announced for the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race.

The international nature of the Clipper Race means it is a natural fit for Benromach, which is exported to more than 30 markets throughout the world.

To mark the race partnership of Benromach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky with Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper in Clipper 07-08 two unique expressions of Benromach have been produced. Latitude 53° Single Cask Bottling was hand selected and bottled from a single sherry cask. It was bottled at 53 percent ABV (alcohol by volume), representing the latitude of Liverpool, the port from which Clipper 07-08 started in September 2007 and will return to on 5 July this year as part of the city’s European Capital of Culture 2008 celebrations.

Benromach Latitude 55 Single Cask is so named because the 55 percent ABV represents the latitude of Glasgow and each of the commemorative bottles, again produced from a single sherry cask, comes with its own certificate. The bottles are being sold worldwide, with £5 from each sale going to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Glasgow: Scotland with style Clipper is currently in second place overall in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race. Before they set off, skipper Hannah Jenner was given the very rare distinction of being made an Honorary Stillman at Benromach. She says, “The team at Benromach has been really involved in supporting us as we race around the world and we are looking forward to seeing them again when we get to Singapore. I am very pleased their involvement with the race is to continue for Clipper 09-10 in what I am sure will be a winning combination.”
