May 1895 Gordon & MacPhail Retail shop opened at South Street Elgin
1895 John Urquhart joins the firm as an apprentice
1896 Gordon & MacPhail begins selling malt whisky outside the Highlands
1914 Gordon & MacPhail starts exporting malt whisky
March 1915 John MacPhail retires and John Urquhart becomes a partner with James Gordon
April 1915 James Gordon dies unexpectedly
April 1915 John Urquhart becomes Senior Partner in the business with the widowed Mrs Gordon
1920 Mrs Gordon retires and David Kier joins as retail manager
1933 John Urquhart’s son and daughter, George Urquhart and Betty Urquhart, join Gordon & MacPhail
1950 John Urquhart’s son, Gordon, joins Gordon & MacPhail
1956 George Urquhart succeeds his father as Senior Partner upon John Urquhart’s death
1960 Opening of bonded warehouses in Elgin
1967 Ian Urquhart, John Urquhart’s grandson, joins Gordon & MacPhail
1972 David Urquhart, John Urquhart’s grandson, joins Gordon & MacPhail
1981 Michael Urquhart, John Urquhart’s grandson, joins Gordon & MacPhail
1990 Rosemary Rankin, John Urquhart’s granddaughter, joins Gordon & MacPhail as a Company Director
1991 New administrative offices and warehouses opened next to the bonded warehouses in Elgin
1993 Gordon & MacPhail purchase Benromach Distillery at Forres
1995 Gordon & MacPhail celebrates 100 years as Malt Whisky Specialists
1998 Benromach is reopened by HRH The Prince of Wales and recommences distillation in its Centenary Year
2000 Stephen Rankin, John Urquhart’s great-grandson, joins Gordon & MacPhail
2002 Neil Urquhart, John Urquhart’s great-grandson, joins Gordon & MacPhail
2002 New bonded warehouse opened at Boroughbriggs Road, Elgin
2004 Richard Urquhart, John Urquhart’s great-grandson, joins Gordon & MacPhail
2004 Gordon and MacPhail launch Benromach Traditional, the first whisky to be distilled and released from Benromach since reopening the distillery in 1998
2004 Following the release of Benromach Traditional, the rest of the Benromach range is given a new look
2005 Gordon & MacPhail celebrate 110 years in business on 24th May 2005
