BENROMACH FREE FAMILY FUNDAY 2005

At Speyside’s smallest working distillery

Speyside’s smallest working distillery, Benromach Distillery once again opens its doors for a Free Family Funday on Sunday 1st May 2005. Just off the A96 at Forres, the distillery is easily recognisable from the road by its near 100-foot red brick chimney and pristine white buildings.

A hugely successful and popular event each year the Benromach Family Funday has been part of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival for the past four years. Gordon & MacPhail, proprietors of Benromach Distillery, look forward to again welcoming families and friends to the Free Family Funday, which over the years has been enjoyed by more than 6000 people.

Making a welcome appearance this year will be a Royal Air Force Sea King helicopter, which will be on static display during the event.

The day promises to be packed full of fun, games and excitement for all the family. Entertainment and live events will take place on stage and around the distillery grounds. Live music will be provided by James Alexander and Eric McGillivray, the Forres Pipe Band, the Green Brae Gaugers and the Pipers from RAF Lossiemouth. There will also be a Tae Kwon Do display and Scottish country dancing by the June Roy Dancers.

Look out for the cask-making demonstration by a cooper from the Speyside Cooperage and watch as a coppersmith from Highland Spirit demonstrates the intricate skills required to make whisky stills.

There will also be an opportunity to put your olfactory skills to the test in the Malt Whisky Centre with our free whisky nosing competition. Learn the history of the distillery and experience the whisky making process for yourself on one of the free distillery tours available during the event.

For the children’s entertainment there will be Bubbles the Clown, free face painting, free balloons and a wonderful selection of free games like ‘Bung the Bung’, ‘Whisky Buzz’ and ‘Hoop the Hoggie’.

The Benromach Free Family Funday is open to the public from 12 noon to 4pm on Sunday 1st May 2005.
